Decorating the Bases

In this tutorial I'll show you how to make your minifigure base look more attractive!

Let's start with list of items which we will use:
-PVA glue
-static grass
-modelling sand
-paints

And now let's do it!

1. I always start by painting the base brown. Well, you don't have to use that colour and you dont't have to paint whole base already, just the edges, because they will be visible and you dont want them to be black, unpainted, don't you? Anyway brown is in my opinion a very universal colour for bases.

2. Take the PVA glue and make 2-3 "dots" with it. After that take a piece of paper or an old brush and spread the glue all over the surface.

3. There are two options now:

-If you have already glued your minifigure to the base (because for example it is a dry-fit model), just bury your base in the modelling sand and wait.
After few seconds take it out and press the sand into the base with your finger so it will be glued firmly and the turn the model upside down and tap the base few times to get rid of excess of the sand.

-If there's no model glued to the base, just turn it upside down, press it into the sand for few seconds and tap the base as well.

4. Basecoat the sand - I always use black for that, sometimes I cant cover this layer completely so this black adds more depth to the base.

5. Paint the sand - I like to make base look just like a normal, earth ground and that's why I use Baneblade Brown (I use this colour with so many things...). Don't worry if there will be still some of the basecoating visible, it will look good, trust me.

6. Shade it! - using shade on the sand is mandatory - I use the Agrax Earthshade (for the reason mentioned in previous point)

7. Use PVA glue just like in point number 2 but use smaller amount of glue - you won't need it to cover whole surface, just few points. After that spread it a little

8. Take a pinch of static grass and press it carefuly to the glue. After that turn the base upside down and tap the base just like in point 3.

And voila! Your minifigures base is no longer flat and boring!
